Phuoc An Port, the largest deep-water port in Dong Nai province, officially commenced operations in 2024, marking a new era for transportation and logistics in southern Vietnam. Covering an area of 164.4 hectares, the port features a total berth length of 2,830 meters, with the capacity to accommodate vessels up to 60,000 DWT and handle 5 million TEUs of container cargo annually. This milestone significantly enhances Phuoc An Port’s position within both national and international logistics networks.
Not only is Phuoc An Port part of the regional logistics network, but it is also a crucial component of the Southern Key Economic Region, which includes Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria – Vung Tau. This strategic area accounts for 70% of the container volume and 50% of the general cargo passing through Vietnam’s seaports, creating strong growth potential for Phuoc An Port.
The Cooperation between Phuoc An Port and UPA
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between UPA (Ulsan Port Authority) and Phuoc An Port is a pivotal step in the port’s development journey. This agreement facilitates extensive cooperation in port management, logistics, and infrastructure development between UPA and Phuoc An Port. The MOU not only enables Phuoc An Port to expand its business operations but also creates significant opportunities to improve service offerings, thereby attracting both domestic and international logistics companies.
KCTC’s Role in Port Connectivity
Our KCTC plays a key role in connecting Phuoc An Port with other major ports in the region, particularly Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port. With its expertise and global logistics services network, KCTC facilitates the expansion of Phuoc An Port’s transportation network and enhances its operational efficiency. This connectivity boosts the port’s ability to link with international shipping routes, strengthening Phuoc An Port’s role in the global supply chain.
Development Potential of Phuoc An Port in Nhon Trach
Nhon Trach district in Dong Nai province is gradually becoming a new logistics hub in southern Vietnam, thanks to the development of key transportation infrastructure. Phuoc An Port is connected to major routes, such as Highway 319, Provincial Road 25B, National Highway 51, and expressways like the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay, Ben Luc – Long Thành, and Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressways. Through this transportation network, Phuoc An Port is directly linked to large industrial zones such as Nhon Trach Industrial Zone (13.5 km), Long Thanh Industrial Zone (31 km), Bien Hoa Industrial Zone (40 km), and other key economic areas like Duc Hoa Industrial Zone (80 km), Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park – Ho Chi Minh City (35 km), and Vung Tau City (60 km). This strong connectivity gives Phuoc An Port the potential to become a major cargo transshipment hub in the region, meeting trade demands between industrial zones and international seaports.
Additionally, Phuoc An Port holds a significant advantage in inland waterway transportation. The port is located on the Cai Mep – Thi Vai river system and connected to nearby rivers such as Ba Hao, Go Gia, Dong Tranh, and Soai Rap. Through this network, goods from Phuoc An Port can easily reach key economic areas in Southeast, Southwest, and the Mekong Delta regions. This creates substantial opportunities for the development of inland waterway logistics services, enhancing the flexibility of goods transportation.
With its large scale and diverse transportation connectivity, Phuoc An Port is increasingly affirming its role in the southern logistics system. Strategic partnerships with UPA and KCTC, along with advantages in location and infrastructure, will drive the port’s strong growth in the coming years.
The collaboration between UPA and Phuoc An Port, along with KCTC’s connectivity role, has laid a solid foundation for the development of Phuoc An Port as well as the logistics system in Nhơn Trạch. With modern facilities, the ability to accommodate large vessels, and convenient transport links, Phuoc An Port is not only an attractive destination for domestic and foreign businesses but also promises to become one of the key ports driving economic development in southern Vietnam.
